Abisodun Adewale practices in the area of intellectual property and technology (IPT) law. She is involved in a wide variety of both contentious and transactional matters, as well as advisory and rights clearance work. She has a particular focus on copyright, media, sport and entertainment, hospitality and leisure, but also has experience working for clients in the technology sector.

She regularly works on cross-border investment transaction in relation to copyright and technology. Abisodun works for startups, financiers / investors as well as established companies. Her work cuts across advice on day-to-day issues as well as on specific projects where she represents clients in negotiations, assisting in legal audits and due diligence, contract documentation, disputes, regulatory and compliance issues as well as offering general legal advisory services.

Experience has included advising:

  • Warner Music Group, on its investment in Chocolate City Group, one of Nigeria’s foremost record labels
  • Mavin Records, in negotiating a private equity investment by Kapunda Capital, a deal that has been described as the first ever private equity deal in Nigeria’s music industry
  • The estate of one of Nigeria’s foremost musical icons, on all transactions including: licensing of a vast catalogue, various merchandising deals, production of the audiovisual and live stage productions on the life of the late icon, and book publishing
  • A content production company, on all aspects of the production of a 126-episode television series commissioned by one of Africa’s foremost subscription-based cable television platforms
  • The organizer of the largest music festival in Africa, on different agreements such as: sponsorship agreements, recording, live broadcast and streaming agreements, content exploitation agreements, competition terms and conditions, submission and location releases, licenses and assignments, performance contracts, releases, media partnership agreements, content production agreements, and merchandising licenses
  • Kudi, a Nigerian fintech startup in its USD5 million series A funding round led by Partech Africa fund
  • Samsung Heavy Industries, on its day-to-day issues relating to finance, projects, employment, infrastructure and construction, complex and simple service level agreements and other transactions
