Edward Sampa advises local and overseas corporates and financial intermediaries on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity funding, joint ventures and other corporate finance matters. He advises clients in a range of sectors including consumer goods, energy and technology.

Edward has been instrumental in growing Chibesakunda & Company's structured commodity trade finance and supply chain finance practice. Edward acts for a number of trade finance focused funds.

Experience has included advising:

  • Joint Book Runners (Barclays and Deutsche Bank) on the USD1 billion sovereign Eurobond
  • Ndola Energy Company Limited on the establishment of a 50 MW heavy fuel oil power plant
  • Nava Bharat on the acquisition of Maamba Collieries, Zambia’s largest coal mine and on the setting up of a themo-power plant as well as its financing
  • Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) on the financing of the acquisition of Finance Bank Zambia PLC by ATLAS MARA through African Banking Corporation Zambia Limited
  • AB Holdings Bostwana on the acquisition of its shares in African Banking Corporation Zambia Limited
  • Barrick Gold on acquisition of Equinox Minerals
  • Barclays Bank Zambia Plc, ABSA Capital, Stanbic Bank Zambia Ltd and Standard Bank of South Africa in relation to the kwacha equivalent of US$ 120m of Zambia Sugar Plc
  • Exim Bank of China and China Development Bank, ICBC on the financing of various government related infrastructure projects including but not limited to roads, airports and the setting up of toll gates
  • Standard Bank of South Africa in the leveraged financing of the construction of Mukuba Mall
  • DEG and FMO in relation to the USD30 million financing of the Handyman's Group in relation to the establishment of a 600TPD lime plant in the Copperbelt
