Driving Local Empowerment in Tanzania’s Mining Sector

The First Edition of the list of the goods and services reserved for indigenous Tanzania company is here.

In September 2025, the Minister for Minerals introduced amendments to the Mining (Local Content) Regulations, including a directing the Mining Commission to issue a list for goods and services reserved exclusively by 100% Tanzanian-owned companies.

On 15 November 2025, the Mining Commission published the first list of 20 categories, including:

  • Legal Services
  • Supply of Explosives & Accessories
  • Civil & Construction Works
  • Chemicals & Reagents
  • Logistics & Transportation
  • Catering & Camp Management

This initiative fosters entrepreneurship, job creation, and skills development, positioning Tanzanian businesses as key players in the resource economy. It aligns with national goals for industrialization and sustainable development.

Key Considerations for Mining Companies:

  • Review existing contracts to avoid compliance risks
  • Address capacity constraints and ensure competitive supplier base
  • Maintain international safety and quality standard
  • Prepare for potential procurement cost adjustments
