Edna is a practicing Advocate of the High Court of Tanzania Mainland and currently holds the position of Associate at the Firm. She works closely with Ms. Samah Salah in the Employment and Labour Relations Practice and with Mr. Gaspar Nyika in the Litigation Department.
She regularly represents clients in a wide range of matters before various High Court Registries, subordinate courts, and Tribunals across Tanzania. Her client portfolio includes leading institutions and corporations such as Commercial Bank of Africa, National Bank of Commerce, NCBA Bank Tanzania Limited, Airtel Tanzania, and Vodacom Tanzania, among others.
Edna has rendered various legal opinions to companies and non-governmental organisations on matters relating to employment and labour relations, including retrenchments, procedures to be followed prior to termination, termination benefits, and other labour-related issues.
She has also advised and successfully represented various top-tier companies in litigation involving land matters before the High Court Land Division and District Land and Housing Tribunals, particularly in disputes against overdraft and loan defaulters. In addition, Edna has represented employers before the High Court Labour Division and the Commission for Mediation and Arbitration (CMA) in employment disputes concerning termination of employment.
Edna works closely with Ms. Miriam Bachuba in the firm’s pro-bono practice in collaboration with DLA Piper’s pro bono initiative, New Perimeter, and DLA Piper Africa in delivery of pro bono services to both local and international clients.
Experience has included advising:
- Advised Apple Bank for Savings and Private Export Funding Corporation on enforcement of Irrevocable Deregistration and Export Request Authorizations over Aircrafts leased to a Tanzanian Company.
- As a team member, representing Tanzania's leading telecommunication provider at the CMA against the claim by its employees who seeks to be reinstated and compensated for unfair termination.
- As a team member, representing a local bank at the Court of Appeal against the claim by its employees who seek to be paid by the company for unfair termination.
- As a team member, experienced in dispute resolution by way of arbitration, mediation, negotiation with the clients with the intent to arrive at an amicable dispute settlement between parties to the agreement.
- As a team member, a leading multimodal transport and logistics operator in Africa at the High Court against the claim by its employee who seeks to execute an award issued by the CMA.
