DLA Piper recognised for its Graduate Scholarship Programme at Federation of African Law Students Awards

Global law firm DLA Piper’s Global Scholarship Programme (GSP) has been recognised by the Federation of African Law Students (FALAS) for its contribution to legal education and pro bono across Africa. It was presented with two awards, Responsible Business Law Team of the Year and Legal Education Impact Award of the year, at the annual awards ceremony which took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Wednesday, 05 October 2022.

The Legal Education Impact Award commended the GSP for its contribution to legal education through supporting law students in Africa to attain quality education, while the Responsible Business Law Team of the Year honoured DLA Piper’s commitment to community impact and pro bono services in Africa and around the globe, as well as it’s commitment to addressing the climate crisis.

FALAS is the unifying body of law students across the African continent, their mission is to build a vibrant network of African law students who are equipped with knowledge and opportunities to address Africa’s challenges and opportunities.

Clementine Johnson, Head of Social Impact and Mthusi Morebodi, Global Scholarships Programme Manager share their comments “Our GSP, now in it’s fifth year, has supported 106 outstanding law students in 18 of the world’s least developed countries.  The Scholarship was designed to help each recipient to realise their potential, and define and reach their educational and professional goals. Our aim is to contribute to the rule of law in these countries, which we know is directly linked to sustainable development.  These two awards recognise the impact the GSP has on individual recipients and the commitment DLA Piper has made to supporting the rule of law and increasing access to justice around the world. We are honoured and hugely encouraged by this recognition - by FALAS.”
