Tanzania’s 2026 foreign exchange reforms: Expanding access to capital markets while tightening trade controls

For investors, issuers, multinational groups and businesses engaged in international trade, the amendments are likely to have practical implications extending beyond day-to-day compliance. On the one hand, they widen access to Tanzanian securities markets. On the other, they require exporters, importers and their banks to identify, explain and reconcile foreign exchange transactions within significantly shorter timeframes.
