Tonny Obonyo is a projects , infrastructure and Litigation lawyer, and his core practice areas include projects and infrastructure, construction, oil and gas, insurance and litigation(regulation and transactions) and legal and regulatory compliance. Tonny advises corporate, and infrastructure entities on a wide range of legal, regulatory and transactional matters, working with in-house counsel, within the business operation and as local counsel.
Experience has included advising:
- Sinohydro Corporation Ltd, a muti-billion Chinese State-owned corporation and the contractor of the 600Mega watts Karuma hydropower project. He advises the corporation on a variety of legal and regulatory mandates including advising the EPCC on contract management, construction, and environmental obligations of the EPCC.
- Egis Roads operations SAS, the operator of the Kampala-Entebbe expressway as the Legal officer for the Expressway and advises the Contractor on contract management, construction, environmental & statutory obligations operations, operation and projects maintenance.
- A member of the project management and implementation support team for the EPC Contractor of the 600MW Karuma Hydropower project.
- Litigation in areas of civil, commercial, banking and criminal law with vast knowledge and interest in Health law, corporate and company law, contract law and employment /labour laws.
- Represents the Contractor on the Project steering committee for the Karuma hydropower project.
- Tonny has good appreciation and understanding of international contracts, EPC Turnkey financing, and project implementation.
- Tonny is also the Legal officer for the Kampala –Entebbe Expressway from 2023 to date and acts for Egis roads operations SMC on all immigration, regulatory and compliance matters.
