People

Matilda Idun-Donkor is a Partner with Reindorf Chambers. She provides legal advice and support to both multi-national and local clients with respect to diverse areas of Ghanaian law including dispute resolution, corporate / commercial law, telecommunications and intellectual property rights. She has been representing clients in court, negotiations, mediation and arbitration, and before quasi-judicial bodies such as the National Labour Commission and the Trademarks Registry for about a decade. Matilda has provided satisfactory legal services to major client’s challenging legal issues, significant business transactions and critical disputes in mining, insurance, banking, telecommunications, real estate and hotel business.

With a deep understanding of clients' needs and the complex local landscape, Matilda advises on the suitable corporate structure for the conduct of business in Ghana and the requisite legal / regulatory regime applicable to clients' businesses. She also assists clients to establish businesses, coordinates due diligence into the affairs of companies to be acquired or merged, and assists clients seeking to enter into joint ventures.

Matilda routinely contributes to the World Bank annual reports titled “Doing Business” which compares business regulations in about 185 economies. Matilda co-authored the International Council for Commercial Arbitration Handbook Country Report for Ghana 2018. She contributed a chapter to Chambers & Partners’ Anti-corruption Global Practice Guide 2017.

Experience has included advising:

  • As a team member, foreign lenders in connection with two term facilities agreements in the sum of USD22,5 million and USD54 million
  • As a team member, wholly owned subsidiaries of a global mining company in relation to its Development Agreements with the Government of Ghana
  • As a team member, the owners of a three star international hotel in Takoradi in relation to the construction of the hotel
  • Under the supervision of a partner of the firm, a Singaporean gold mining company which acquired a mining company in Ghana
  • As a team member, a telecommunications company that acquired over 800 passive telecommunications infrastructure (masts) from a telecommunications company in Ghana
  • Under the supervision of a partner of the firm, clients from the Middle East entering into joint ventures with Ghanaian partners to embark on manufacturing business in Ghana.
  • Under the supervision of a partner of the firm, a wholly owned subsidiary of a global mining company in an arbitration involving construction contracts entered into with a contractor
  • As a  team member, an international insurance company in a civil aviation dispute involving its insured. Reindorf Chambers are representing the insured in litigation in the High Court
  • As  a team member, a telecommunications company in a tax appeal
  • As a team member, a wholly owned subsidiary of a global mining company in a court action brought by a trade union against the company over its decision to adopt contract mining resulting in the retrenchment of approximately 2,300 of its employees
