The Tax Laws Amendment Act, 2020

The President of Kenya, through a public address on 25th March 2020 announced several income tax and Value Added Tax (VAT) interventions that are aimed at cushioning Kenyans from the crippling effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Pursuant to the President’s address, The Tax Laws Amendment Bill, 2020 which amends various tax statutes was assented to by the President on 25th April 2020.

The income tax measures together with other non-COVID 19 related tax proposals are contained in the Tax Laws Amendment Act, 2020 (“the Act”).  DLA Piper Africa, IKM Advocates has prepared this tax alert highlighting the tax amendments contained in the Act and providing insights on the implications of the proposals.
