Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Call to the Nigerian Bar (BL) optional;
Specialised marketing or business operations courses like (Diploma in
Marketing Communication, Diploma in Digital Marketing, Certificate in
Marketing, etc.) required.
Experience
Minimum of Six (6) years’ experience in Business Development, Marketing
Communications/Digital Marketing, or similar roles. Relevant experience working
in similar roles in a law firm or professional services firm is compulsory.

Job Purpose
To lead and oversee the development and management of the firm’s profile,
client relationships, and business growth initiatives. The Senior Business
Development Personnel will independently plan, coordinate, and execute
business development, marketing, public relations, and client service strategies
across the firm’s practice groups and individual lawyers. This role requires strong
managerial skills to lead a team, drive brand visibility, and expand the firm’s client
base effectively.
Job Responsibilities
5.1. Strategic Planning and Implementation:
- Develop, implement, and manage the firm’s business development and
client services plan consistently with the firm’s strategic plan and policies
set by the BD Partners. - Identifying and developing the Firm’s unique selling propositions and
differentiators. - Present to and consult with partners on business development trends,
with a view to improving legal services through the researching of
industry best practice. - Facilitate development, implementation, and tracking of business
development/ marketing plans for the firm’s practice groups and lawyers
consistently with the firm’s plan and policies. - Attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences,
and provide feedback and information on industry sector market and
creative trends. - Driving forward sector campaigns, ensuring the successful delivery and
monitoring of potential revenue channels. - Participate in the firm’s strategic planning activities with respect to
evaluation and improvement of existing client relations/services and
future business development opportunities by tracking and recording
activities on existing and potential clients; researching and developing a
thorough understanding of the firm's capabilities. - Delivering business support to the sector leads, supporting them in the
delivering of their business plans and ensuring that the Firm delivers to
a common Client Relationship Management (CRM) approach. - Identifying, developing, and targeting growth strategies and plans
focused on both financial gain and increased client base.
5.2. Budgeting
- Develop and manage the firm’s business development and client
services annual budget, which includes marketing expenditures for the
firm, practice groups, and individual lawyers by liaising with vendors/third
party; preparing and compiling estimates.
5.3. Pitches
- Researching and preparing pitch documentation and Request for
Proposals (RFPs), including executive summaries detailing the Firm’s
capabilities and completed transactions and/or Deal sheets. - Coordinating logistics associated with pitch/RFP production and delivery,
drafting, and sending proposals for new business as needed.
Participating in planning and presentation efforts as appropriate
(including presentation packets, slides, etc) Maintains resumes for over
40 lawyers; - Overall RFP process.
5.4. Media/Public Relations
- Preparing and managing public relations activities and communications
for the firm across all channels (TV, radio, print, digital and social media)
to ensure prominent positioning of DLA Piper Africa, Nigeria. - Development of press releases by creating content for press releases,
new lawyer announcements and notices, other firm announcements,
media materials, and coordination with any external PR consultants. - Responsible for recommending design ideas for print and online
advertising and assist in negotiating media buys and associated
contracts. - Create content to support the development of the monthly DLA Piper
Africa, Nigeria Newsletters; social media calendar and 3rd party blogs.
Source and produce original pieces on legal work as it relates to different
industries. Manage content for Wikipedia page, website, and other
channels. - Update and maintain online and print marketing and business
development materials for the firm and for lawyers, including firm and
lawyer profiles, practice descriptions, brochures while overseeing
mailing list creation and updates with the BD Partners. - Arranging for professional photo-shoots and maintaining image and logo
files. Assist in preparing various art files (headshots, logos, and graphics)
for use in online and print materials, and selecting products for
promotional use at seminars, conferences, presentations, etc. - Managing the firm’s social networking pages for the firm and its lawyers
(Website, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter.), and other electronic
communications, including drafting and updating content, images and
working with outside technical and design consultants as needed;
5.5. Research, Tracking and Reporting
- Analyse client feedback data to determine satisfaction with the firm’s
legal services and generate report. - Maintaining the firm’s databases. Track growth on social media channels
using the available tools; Make recommendations based on findings from
the social media analytics; Conduct competitive analysis for the different
law firms. Prepare and generate business development reports as
requested. - Prepare necessary documentation for information submission on
lawyers and the firm in online directories and referral sites. Research and
determine which directories should be launched and maintained; - Review BD project progress against targets and take corrective
measures where required, raising issues with the BD Partners as
needed. - Provide a weekly progress report to the Partners and ensure data is
accurate. - Firm Memberships: Managing all firm memberships and seek for
membership opportunities that the firm can take advantage of to
enhance the firm’s profile. - Surveys and Assessment: Design and conduct or arrange for the
design and implementation of client satisfaction surveys and market
research. - Coaching/Training Lawyers: Coordinate training in business
development and client services for lawyers and staff of the firm. Track
progress and suggest business development opportunities for lawyers
and practice group in all locations. - Research and develop a thorough understanding of the Firm's
capabilities as well as listening and monitoring News for relevant
company keywords, seeks insights and identifies buzzing news on-line
related to the Firm.
