Asset Based Lending

We have experience advising clients with regard to asset-based lending and receivables financing. We advise local and international banks, finance houses, sponsors and corporates globally on a range of finance transactions, including asset-based lending, receivables financing, supply chain finance, consignment and title finance, distribution and transit finance and non-recourse structures, among others.

Experience has included advising:

  • Trade and Development Bank for the USD30.5 million limited recourse financing of the development of a luxury hotel.
  • Standard Chartered Bank London, FMO, European Investment Bank and BNP Paribas, as the outgoing lenders, in connection with the USD403 million project re-financing of the 250 MW Bujagali II hydro power project
  • Trade and Development Bank for a landmark USD20 million murabaha financing (Islamic finance) facility to a leading downstream petroleum company.
  • Standard Chartered Bank London and Standard Chartered Bank Uganda for a USD19 million facility to the region’s leading corrugated board factory.
  • A leading Asian public financial institution and export credit agency on a multi-million dollar loan to a Ugandan borrower.
  • DEG for two senior loan facilities to leading local financial institutions in Uganda.
  • dfcu Limited for a USD50 million bridging finance facility from Arise B.V (a specialist development finance vehicle sponsored by Norfund, FMO and Rabobank) in connection with dfcu Limited’s banking subsidiary’s acquisition of Crane Bank.
  • The borrower in connection with a USD40 million facility from Proparco for the development of a cogeneration plant and factory refurbishment. 
  • Standard Chartered Bank Uganda and the Trade and Development Bank for a USD38 million syndicated loan facility to the borrower, a leading telecommunications company.
  • East African Development Bank for a novel USD2.5 million facility with dfcu Bank that involved the placing of a charge on government treasury bills.
