Infrastructure Finance

Our lawyers have experience in the infrastructure market and act for both sponsors and lenders in a wide range of limited recourse financing transactions. 

We have broad experience of PPP projects and thorough knowledge of several market sectors, including power (thermal and renewable), transport (roads, airports and shipping), oil, gas, commodities and water.

Experience has included advising:

  • The lenders (Proparco, International Finance Corporation, African Development Bank, DEG, CDC Group, Absa Bank and Nedbank London) on the USD423 million project re-financing of the 250 MW Bujagali II hydro power dam, including advising the lenders on the Government of Uganda’s sovereign guarantee commitments.
  • Trade and Development Bank (PTA Bank) for the USD11.5 million project financing of a 6.9 MW run-of-the-river mini hydropower dam (Mbigi-Sirimitiyo hydro power plant).
  • Trade and Development Bank (PTA Bank) for the USD12.5 million project financing of a 4.8 MW run-of-the-river mini hydropower dam developed under the GET FiT Program (Waki hydro power plant). 
  • Trade and Development Bank (PTA Bank) for the USD13.7 million project financing of a 9.6 MW run-of-the-river mini hydropower dam developed under the GET FiT Program (Lower Nkusi hydro power plant).
  • The lenders (International Finance Corporation, African Development Bank, European Investment Bank, DEG, AFD, Proparco, KfW, FMO, Standard Chartered Bank London, ABSA Bank, BNP Paribas Fortis and Nedbank Limited) for the USD900 million project financing of the 250 MW Bujagali II hydro power dam.
  • FMO and DEG for the USD25 million additional financing of the 250 MW Bujagali II hydro power dam.
  • African Development Bank and the Trade and Development Bank for the USD13 million project financing of the 9 MW Buseruka hydro-power dam.
  • Electro-Maxx, an independent power producer, for a USD35 million project finance facility from Stanbic Bank Uganda in connection with the borrower’s expansion of its heavy fuel oil plant from 20 MW to 50 MW.
