Mozambique Instant Payment System

We inform the business community and other interested parties that the Bank of Mozambique has approved Notice No. 1/GBM/2026, of 25 February, which creates the Mozambican Instant Payment System (SPIM) and approves the respective Regulation.

The SPIM is an electronic payment mechanism that enables payments with immediate availability of funds to the beneficiary. SPIM is operated and managed by Sociedade Interbancária de Moçambique (SIMO).

SPIM participants include SIMO, credit institutions, payment service providers, and other entities authorized by the Bank of Mozambique.

All interbank transactions conducted by individuals through SPIM are exempt from fees and commissions.

The daily transaction limits in SPIM are: 200,000.00 MT (two hundred thousand Meticais) for individuals and 500,000.00 MT (five hundred thousand Meticais) for legal persons.

Notice No. 1/GBM/2026 has been in force since March 2, 2026, and its non-compliance is punishable under Law No. 2/2008, of February 27, which approves the Law on the National Payment System.
