Our lawyers advise on the purchase and sale of existing power assets, as well as on the siting, development, permitting and financing of power projects, both thermal and renewable.

Experience includes advising:

  • Project sponsors in two 40 MW solar power projects in Uasin Gishu County up to financial close. The projects were commissioned and are now connected to the national grid.
  • A power company on the financing and development of four (4) run-of-river hydro- electric power generation projects, up to financial close.
  • The African Development Bank and other lenders in relation to the development of the 400kV Loosuk-Lessos Transmission Line (165km) and associated facilities and the 220KV, Kisumu-Kakamega-Musaga Transmission Line (72km) and associated substations.
  • A confidential client on the procurement of an EPC contractor for the construction of a 25 km, 400 KV double circuit transmission line and associated substations in Kenya.
  • Receivers appointed by lenders in respect of the sale of wind turbine generators and other assets of an energy SPV- Kinangop Wind Park Limited.
  • A client on the acquisition of equity in an SPV developing a 40 MW Solar Energy Project in Kericho County, Kenya. The brief involved carrying out legal due diligence on the SPV, advising on the approvals required, reviewing the draft PPA and reviewing the share purchase agreement.
  • A developer and senior lenders on the development and construction of a 140 MW geothermal power plant and related facilities in the Rift Valley region in Kenya
  • Sponsors on the setting up and development of a 30 MW solar power project in Makindu, Makueni County, Kenya.
  • Sponsors in the setting up of a 100 MW wind energy project in Kajiado County, up to financial close. The project was commissioned and is now connected to the national grid.
  • An American multinational conglomerate on the Batoka Gorge Hydro Electric Power Project in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
  • A corporate client on the development and financing of a biomass energy project in Nairobi and Kisumu.
  • A private client on the setting up of biomass energy project for captive energy.
  • Lenders on the financing of 40MW solar power project in Malindi, Kenya up to financial close. The project was commissioned and is now connected to the national grid.
  • Lenders on the financing of a 40MW photovoltaic power project in Kesses, Kenya, up to financial close. The project was commissioned and is now connected to the national grid.
  • The sponsors in the setting up of a 40 MW Solar power project in Witu, Lamu County, Kenya.
  • The developers on the setting up of a 50 MW wind power project in Kajiado, Kenya. 
  • A developer on the development of 40 MW solar power project in Rumuruti, Kenya.
  • Project sponsors on the financing and development of a 7.5 MW hydropower project in Maresi, Bungoma County in Kenya.
  • Lenders on two 50 MW wind power projects in Kajiado and Kiambu Counties.
